Liam Preston BEM

Biography

Liam joined the University of Essex as Director of Communications in March 2022 after more than a decade working in the third sector. He has a varied background of skills beginning his career in policy and public affairs, focussing on lobbying the government for the advancement of youth before moving into communications and specialising in crisis management. Liam has been the Chair and Vice-Chair of a number of charities and educational institutions as well as being President of his Students' Union for two years. He was awarded the British Empire Medal by HM Queen in July 2020 in honour of his services to young people. His responsibilities at Essex are ensuring the institution has a strong brand that is known across the UK and globally. Ensuring corporate communications promote Essex's world leading research and life-changing education, and that the University's staff and students are well informed of what is happening on the ground through dedicated and innovative internal communication channels.
